About
EELUS is a British contemporary artist whose career began in the early 2000s at the heart of London's emerging street art scene. Entirely self-taught, EELUS developed his practice through curiosity, experimentation and an instinctive need to communicate visually.
Working across paintings, screen prints, murals, paper cuts and sculptural pieces, EELUS has developed a distinctive visual language influenced by pop culture, cinema, graphic design and art history.
Balance has always been central to his work. Light and shadow, humour and melancholy, beauty and unease sit comfortably alongside one another, creating images that feel both playful and quietly unsettling. His figures, often solitary or contemplative, are surrounded by vivid colour or intricate decorative elements that hint at hope, vulnerability and resilience. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, his work leaves space for the viewer to bring their own experiences and interpretations.
Although best known for his stencil work, EELUS has never been interested in being defined by a single technique. Over the past two decades he has continually expanded his practice, exploring new materials and processes while maintaining the graphic clarity and attention to detail that first established his reputation.
Alongside his studio work, large-scale murals remain an important part of his practice, allowing him to create work that exists beyond the gallery and engages directly with the public.
Since becoming a full-time artist in 2009, EELUS has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and internationally. His successful solo exhibitions, group shows and consistently sold-out print editions have earned him a loyal following among collectors.
Now based in Brighton, UK, EELUS continues to create paintings, prints and murals that balance technical precision with emotional depth. His background, life perspective and neurodivergence all influence his approach to the creative process, but it is curiosity, craftsmanship and a fascination with visual storytelling that define his work.
A quarter of a century after placing his first stencil on the streets of East London, he remains driven by the same desire: to create images that communicate something beyond words and explore the space where beauty and darkness coexist.
