Continuing my exploration of themes of childhood, discovery, and the connections we form with the people who matter most, my latest 14 layer screenprint, The Centre Of It All, explores the gravitational pull our children have on the world around them.
This idea has been with me for a while. As a parent, it feels like everything in life has started to orbit this small, unstoppable person. Every decision, every plan, every future dream somehow bends around them. There’s joy in that, but also weight, and an overwhelming sense of responsibility. I wanted the work to hold both those feelings: the energy of a child running free and the quiet truth that their movement shapes everything.
As the girl runs through her universe, her footsteps leave ripples in space and time, the seven spectrum colours representing the full emotional range that radiates from a child's presence in your life—joy, anxiety, wonder, exhaustion, pride, fear, love. All the feels, all the time.
